Opinion: Main Street Needs RepavingBy Kal Bennett Anyone who has driven down Main Street lately knows the condition of the road is getting worse by the week. Cracks, potholes, and uneven patches make the ride bumpy and unpleasant, and in some cases unsafe. Main Street is the heart of Wanakawa, with its shops, restaurants, and businesses drawing locals and visitors every day. If we want to keep our downtown thriving, we need a roadway that matches the quality of the businesses it serves. The town should make repaving Main Street a top priority. This is not just about aesthetics, though a smoother street would certainly improve the look of our downtown. It is about safety, accessibility, and pride in our community. Let's invest in the road that so many of us rely on daily. Don't Forget the Importance of RecyclingBy Susan O'Donnell Recycling is one of the simplest ways we can all help protect the environment, yet it is too often overlooked. I have noticed overflowing trash cans at events and in the park, while recycling bins sit empty or, in some cases, are not even provided. This is a missed opportunity for Wanakawa to reduce waste and set an example for the younger generation. Every plastic bottle, aluminum can, or piece of cardboard that gets recycled is one less item filling up a landfill. The town should expand recycling programs, and residents should take the responsibility to use them. With a little effort from all of us, Wanakawa can become a cleaner, greener place to live. Town Park Needs More Benches and ShadeBy Gloria Ramirez Brooks Park is one of Wanakawa's best-loved gathering places, but lately I have heard the same complaint from many visitors: there are not enough benches or shaded areas. Families come to enjoy picnics, seniors like to walk the paths, and children spend hours on the playground. Yet finding a comfortable spot to rest, especially on a hot summer afternoon, can be a challenge. Adding more benches and planting additional trees would make the park more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone. This is not a major expense, but it would make a big difference in the daily lives of residents. The Town Park is meant to be a place of relaxation and community, and small improvements like these will ensure it continues to serve that role for years to come.
