City Park Renovation Plans Unveiled

Renovations to Brooks Park, located just off Washington Avenue, are underway as the town looks to revitalize one of its most cherished public spaces. The project, approved by the Wanakawa City Council earlier this spring, includes the installation of new playground equipment, additional walking paths, and improvements to the park's aging gazebo. The park, a favorite spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts, has long been a focal point of community gatherings, and the upgrades are expected to enhance the park's accessibility and overall appeal.

"We want to make sure Brooks Park remains a welcoming space for everyone," said Parks Director Mark Ellison. "The new design will make it easier for families to enjoy the outdoors and for seniors to take a leisurely walk without worrying about uneven surfaces." In addition to the improved playground and pathways, the park will also feature more picnic tables, better lighting for evening strolls, and additional trees for shade. Local landscaping company Green Horizons was hired to help with the design, ensuring that the renovations blend seamlessly with the park's natural surroundings.

The project is expected to be completed by early fall, just in time for the Wanakawa Harvest Festival, when the park typically hosts the annual community picnic. Many residents are already looking forward to the improvements, with one longtime visitor, Elaine Mitchell, sharing her excitement. "It's always been a beautiful park, but these updates will really bring it into the 21st century. I can't wait to see it all finished!" The town hopes that the renovations will attract more visitors from outside Wanakawa, further solidifying Brooks Park's reputation as a vital piece of the community.
